bananas are a dying race.

someone, please confirm this to be false.. please!!!

"Ever wonder why bananas are the cheapest fruit in the supermarket? It makes no sense. They're grown thousands of miles away by steely imperialist multinational corporations, and spoil within two weeks. A Times Op-Ed argues that bananas are on their way out, and may disappear entirely from store shelves in the next twenty years.

According to Dan Koppel, bananas are cheap because they are "the fruit equivalent of a fast-food hamburger." Banana producers rely on a single genetic strain, the Cavendish, to guarantee that all bananas in a shipment ripen simultaneously. While this allows producers to enjoy economies of scale that keep our beloved bananas cheap, it also leaves bananas dangerously exposed to the vengeful wiles of genetics:

This has happened before. Our great-grandparents grew up eating not the Cavendish but the Gros Michel banana, a variety that everyone agreed was tastier. But starting in the early 1900s, banana plantations were invaded by a fungus called Panama disease and vanished one by one. Forest would be cleared for new banana fields, and healthy fruit would grow there for a while, but eventually succumb.

By 1960, the Gros Michel was essentially extinct and the banana industry nearly bankrupt. It was saved at the last minute by the Cavendish, a Chinese variety that had been considered something close to junk: inferior in taste, easy to bruise (and therefore hard to ship) and too small to appeal to consumers. But it did resist the blight.

Over the past decade, however, a new, more virulent strain of Panama disease has begun to spread across the world, and this time the Cavendish is not immune. The fungus is expected to reach Latin America in 5 to 10 years, maybe 20. The big banana companies have been slow to finance efforts to find either a cure for the fungus or a banana that resists it. Nor has enough been done to aid efforts to diversify the world’s banana crop by preserving little-known varieties of the fruit that grow in Africa and Asia.

Quick, banana producers, call the scientists who built the seedless watermelon. They may be our only hope."

SAY IT AINT SO, SAY IT AINT SO... =(

PS: While on the yellow topic.... i stumbled across this photo earlier...

someone posted it on a blog and wrote "This photo makes me angry. Who in their right mind would dress their dog as a banana? And why does Chiquita make banana costumes for dogs in the first place?!"

im sorry but thats the funniest thing ive ever seen. if you dont find that funny, i hope you can find some happiness in your life. bananadogs ftw!!

dunkxchangemiami.

so, i do this thing with sneakers... w/e w/e.
basically, ive been collecting nikes since i was a youngin.. and now im selling a lot of stuff. ill be posting a link with what im selling later on today. anyway, theres this event that 2 homies of mine throw, called dunkxchange. it began as a small event where sneaker nerds could come out to trade/buy/sell kicks in a legit enviroment with no fake bs. over the years, this event has just turned into something huge.. tons of people come out, there are djs, performances, etc. ive had my own table at every dunkxchange since they started... just to get rid of bits and pieces that i dont rock anymore.

yesterday i went on a lollercoaster at dunkxchange...

dunkxchange is usually held at a club, which explains why there are stripper poles and jacked bartenders everywhere. in fact, the dunkxchange is usually located at a club in downtown miami on a sunday afternoon, so youre bound to see a few people walking around cluelessly and friendly while their highs are coming down, its quite funny actually. last event a kid walked directly into a stack of my sneaker boxes and knocked them all down. he was wearing sunglasses, a wifebeater, and was sucking vigorously on ice.... at 2pm. lol. so yea, the scene just keeps getting funnier and funnier.... im not gonna sit here and hate, but its just so crazy how much is changed.
my friends and i were observing a grandma and daughter dance on a stripper pole for an hour, i have a video but im not sure if i should upload.. haha.

then we witnessed this....

catch dunkxchange in a city near you, bringing sneakers4sale and lolz.
check my blog later on, KICKS OF MINE SIZE 5.5-8 FOR SALE!!!

Ive been super busy recently and i havent had much time to catch up on new music via interweb blogz. on this rainy afternoon i decided to do a little music work.... i stumbled across this remix on one of my fave blogz by none other than Ursula 1000. Alex Gimeno (Ursula) is sick, hes a DJ who has been around for quite some time. What i love most about him is that he plays and remixes so many different genres of music, he just gained a lot of brownie points for this one...

years ago i came across this crazy quiz on one of my forums. i spent hours working on it, trying my hardest NOT to google the answers. anyway, a few weeks ago during another shift at Apple, a friend pulled up the quiz. from that point on, we were going at it until the store closed. i wanted to post it, but forgot.... if youre bored and want to spend some time with your mind (plus get really frustrated and confused), then play the impossible quiz!

baby toe, no moe?

dear readers,

Yumna was telling me that back in middle school she was told that eventually the baby toe would be inexistent. i couldnt believe that i had never heard about this fiasco. i mean, it definitely makes sense.. as the generations go by.. the baby toes are in fact shrinking.

i googled this topic but was unable to retrieve legitimate search results.

has anyone got the 411 on baby toe extinction?

lmk.

PS: pinky is the name of the little finger.
baby is the name of little toe.
right? def not the other way around.

childhood days.

when i was a tiny human, these were my two favorite films. If you have some time, watch all these vids, you wont regret it!!

The Snowman
I hadn't watched The Snowman in over 10 years. I watched it last night and was in tears over the music in this short film. Even though its been ages since i've seen it, i remember each scene coinciding with the amazing music!! Ah, beautiful.

Fantasia
Fantasia was my favorite. I watched it at least once a week. Again, i havent watched this in a very long time. I watched all the YouTube vids i could find of it yesterday... wowowowow is all i have to say. Watching it now just makes me realize how amazing Disney is. Such passion in the music, and the film itself it just amazing. The collaboration of Disney with Stokowski is one that can never be touched. Im going to finally buy it on DVD.
I remember seeing a bunch of other Fantasia's.. like Fantasia 2? and Fantasia 2000?
Come on now, nothing can be the OG.. this movie is genius. Utilizing the music by portraying it through animation .. wowza!! I was absolutely fascinated with this movie when i was a youngin', im even more obsessed now.

This scene is pretty famous. Mickey got his big break here.

The mushies are my fave !!! Look at liddle guy, he so cute.

Ugh. Watching this one gives me the chills. So beautiful..

There are no words in both of these movies. The pieces that are used are amazing.
Isn't it beautiful how music can represent such vivid stories?

I hope you enjoyed these vids as much as i do =) !

I also loved The Labyrinth very much, but that was much later in my days. David Bowie is amazing.

peace & love.
